Day 108

Today I ran 1.5 miles in the morning then taught a resistance class in the evening.  My body is feeling very tired tonight, so I will make tomorrow a rest morning.  Every week pretty much feels this way at this point, so I have made it a point to listen to my body and rest.

Rest is just as important as working out.  Many people don’t understand this concept.  They think that if they aren’t killing themselves in workouts everyday, they aren’t going to get the results they want.  In actuality, the opposite is true.  If you continually workout, without any rest days, you will do a number of things:

suppress your immune system

set yourself up for possible injury

not allow muscles to build stronger

“burn out” and ultimately not exercise

By allowing the muscles to completely rebuild after a workout, you are actually achieving the goals you want:  definition, strength, etc.  Add stretching to this, and you set up yourself to be healthy, and be successful in your workouts.
