Everyone associates a protein shake or smoothie as something you do when on a diet.  Or as a meal replacement.  While this might be true, and you can use a shake as a meal replacement, there is another way to use protein shakes or smoothies that can be very helpful when trying to avoid sugar.

A protein shake can be used as a snack!  That’s right~ when those afternoon sugar cravings hit, and your energy dips, it’s time to make a shake!  It will soon have you forgetting all about those sugar blues, and revive that energy!  If you start your day with a shake or have one late morning, it might help you to not have that fatigue in the afternoon.  It really works!

So what kind of a shake should you make?  Vanilla, chocolate, whatever flavor you like with the following as a base:

frozen banana

frozen berries

fresh fruit with ice

Put these ingredients in first and then add unsweetened almond or oat milk, 1 tsp of vanilla, spinach or kale, protein powder and I like to use unsweetened peanut butter powder.  It’s a great snack to look forward to and it really beats those cravings!

Shown in the picture is one of my favorite shakes:

frozen bananas

unsweetened almond milk

1 tsp vanilla

peanut butter powder (no sugar)

spinach

vanilla protein powder

Blend it all together and VOILA!  You have yourself an amazing snack!  Try it!
